Reflecting on his journey and current stage in an interview with ANI, Dhawan said, “I don’t think I should do more. This could be my last film. After this, I will just be Varun’s father,” indicating that he may be ready to retire from filmmaking. Varun took great care of me, he had all the doctors’ numbers, got in touch with them and was always with them. He is a complete family man.”

Outlining his approach on set he said, “When I’m behind the camera, he’s not my son, he’s an actor. I just want results.” On how the process of filmmaking has evolved, Dhawan said, “In our times, films were made on trust. Even actors like Salman Khan or Govinda or Sanjay Dutt did not always listen to the complete script. We narrated the scenes and that’s how films were made.”
