It is estimated that De De Pyaar De will collect Rs 2 crore. Earned 5.25 crores on second Sunday, taking the second weekend collection to Rs. 11.75 crore nett. The increase from Saturday is about 20 percent, which is reasonable, but the damage was already done on the second Friday, as the decline was larger than expected. The film made Rs. 47 crores in the first week, meaning the running cume has now reached Rs. Net in India Rs 59 crore.
The saving grace is that the film has performed better than recent films in the genre, and that too without a buy-one-get-one offer. De De Pyaar De 2 is expected to now complete its theatrical run at around Rs. 70 crores to Rs. ₹75 crore, which would be about 20 per cent less than the original share in raw, non-adjusted numbers. Adjusted for inflation, that would be closer to half of that movie, which isn’t exactly good.
The rom-com genre in general is suffering in the post-pandemic times. Even considering this, it could have done better than its initial debut, but the trends have also been modest, which means there is an appreciation issue as well.
