The Delhi High Court on Friday indicated that it will issue interim directions to protect the personality rights of Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha. The case was heard by Justice Jyoti Singh, who was considering a plea seeking an injunction against the actor’s alleged misuse of his identity.

During the proceedings, the court asked about specific examples of violations. In response, the lawyer representing Sinha pointed to unauthorized use of his personality and characteristics by some AI chatbots. Taking note of the submission, the court directed the legal team to provide a soft copy of the alleged infringing link. It also allowed filing of additional documents in a sealed cover within two days. The next hearing of the case has now been fixed for July 6.

This development follows the recent order of the same court, which provided protection to the personality rights of Patanjali Ayurveda founder Ramdev through a John Doe directive. Over time, coordinate benches of the High Court have passed similar judgments in favor of many public figures in different fields.

Those who have received such legal protection include singer Jubin Nautiyal, Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar and actors Kajol, R. Madhavan and NT Rama Rao Jr. Actor Salman Khan has also approached the court with a similar petition.

The high court, in separate cases, has granted protection to Art of Living Foundation spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Telugu actor Nagarjuna, as well as Bollywood actors Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and filmmaker Karan Johar.

In another recent example, journalist Sudhir Chaudhary was granted reprieve after raising concerns over misleading AI-generated videos circulating online. Similarly, a John Doe order was issued in favor of podcaster Raj Shamani, with the court recognizing his prominence in the digital content sector.
