The much-awaited Malayalam psychological horror film Dice Ira starring Pranav Mohanlal and directed by Rahul Sadasivan has finally hit the theatres, and the initial reactions from the audience are fantastic. Released just in time for Halloween week, the film is being praised for its spooky atmosphere, powerful performances, and well-crafted story.
Many moviegoers took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their thoughts, and called Days Ira a “must see” for horror lovers. Audiences described the first part as “holy f**kin’ cinema – thrilling, engaging and full of horror elements”, while others described it as “an exquisitely crafted, hair-raising experience that establishes Rahul Sadasivan as one of the finest storytellers of our times.”
Audiences seem to be particularly impressed with director Rahul Sadasivan, who previously directed Bhootakalam. One user wrote that the filmmaker “delivered a fantastic big screen experience,” while another said that the film “may rekindle hope for more horror films within Indian cinema.”
Pranab Mohanlal’s portrayal of Rohan, a man haunted by extraordinary events from his family’s past, has also received praise. Fans said her subtle but powerful performance fit the psychological tension of the film perfectly. Supporting actors Arun Ajikumar, Jaya Kurup and Jibin Gopinath were also praised for their strong performances, which add depth to the horrific story.
Inspired by true events, Dice Ira combines psychological horror and supernatural elements to create a slow-burning but intense story. Audiences described the film as having a “pretty good first half, followed by a good second half with some really cool twists and scare scenes.”
The technical aspects of the film have also attracted attention. Jyotish Shankar’s art direction and Cristo Xavier’s music up the scare factor, while the 115-minute runtime ensures an entertaining experience without dragging the story.
Currently running successfully in theatres, Dice Irae is expected to have its digital premiere on OTT platforms in late November or early December. Until then, fans recommend seeing it on the big screen, calling it “a stunning theatrical experience that should not be missed.”
