In 2015, two iconic films of Indian cinema were released in the same month, with a difference of only 1 week. These were none other than SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali: The Beginning and Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan. Both films proved to be huge blockbusters and became ‘landmark’ films of Indian cinema. And now, as SS Rajamouli is re-releasing both the Baahubali films as a single film, Baahubali: The Epic, he sat down for a fun chat with Prabhas and Rana Daggubati.
During their candid chat, Rana Daggubati recalled how SS Rajamouli wanted to advance the release date of Baahubali: The Beginning by a week to avoid a box office clash with Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan. He said, “We were promoting. Rajamouli was saying, ‘Talk to Karan Johar, we will release it next week.’ I said, ‘This doesn’t work in Hindi. Everything is done. This cannot happen now. He was like, ‘It’s only a week. Another Hindi film is releasing on the same day.
Referring to Salman Khan’s superstardom and how badly his film can affect the business of any rival release, Prabhas said with surprise, “Salman Khan cinema. It was no ordinary cinema, it was Salman Khan cinema.”
Rana said, “On top of that, Rajamouli was saying that the film (Bajrangi Bhaijaan) would be really good. I know that story. That cinema would be great.”
Let us tell you, Karan Johar had distributed both the Baahubali films in Hindi under Dharma Productions. The film clashed with Salman Khan and Kabir Khan’s film on Eid 2015; However, it was later extended by a week. Both Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Baahubali were written by V. Vijayendra Prasad, father of SSR.
Rajamouli’s Baahubali: The Epic is all set to release in theaters on October 31, 2025, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Baahubali’s release. The duration of the upcoming movie is 3 hours and 44 minutes. It is expected that when re-released it will create new records at the box-office.
