Despite Monday being a partial holiday, which somewhat mitigated the impact of discounted ticket prices, the film maintained a steady performance today. Thanks to this stronghold, the musical romantic drama has grossed a total of Rs 48.75 crore at the Indian box office in its 8-day theatrical run. It will cross Rs. 50 crore mark tomorrow.
Directed by Milap Zaveri, the film has been accepted by the audience thanks to its viral music track and attractive promotional assets. The hangover of Harshvardhan Rane’s film Sanam Teri Kasam (re-release) also attracted a section of the audience to the theatres. Made on a small budget, this film proved to be a clean hit and emerged as the highest grossing film of Rane’s career.
If the film continues to pick up momentum in the next few weeks, it could make around Rs. Will do business. 70 crores in Hindi, which is a fantastic figure considering the cast and the cost involved, that too in conflict with a relatively bigger film, Thamma.
‘Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat’, released after Diwali, is performing well at the box office. One possible reason is that it being a youth film, it was less popular on Diwali than a family or comedy film. As a result, when the festive surge subsided, the decline was less pronounced. The limited release has also played a role, giving it spillover business. The film is now getting shows in some single screens where it could not release during the holidays due to Thamma, and is getting a strong response even after the delay in release.
