In a report in India today, Kapoor has claimed that the film has distorted the facts by promoting itself as being based on its book, without getting its consent as per the requirement by the contract. He also expressed concern over the depiction of events and data from Indian political history, alleging factual impurities and misleading illustrations.
In a detailed statement, Kapoor said, “My daughter is a lawyer, so on her advice, I included two volumes. While the producers had complete artistic freedom to make a film, nothing should change that opposes historical facts that are publicly available.” He said, “The contract also said that the author’s name and book cannot be used for promotion or exploitation of film without pre -written consent. I was in Goa and did not see the film at that time, assuming that he would respect the contract. But they are still claiming that the film is based on the book.”
Kapoor further revealed that he had already sent two legal notice to the production team, but he had not received any response. He also cited a WhatsApp exchange with Akshar Ranaut, Kangana’s brother and Representative of Manikarnica Films from August 2023, where he reiterated the terms of the agreement. Kapoor said, “The terms of the contract should be followed and while referring to his book in sources, the film was not described ‘based on his book’.”
So far, neither Kangana Ranaut nor Netflix have publicly addressed the allegations.
