One of the greatest films of Indian cinema, cinder (1975), is all set to be re-released. However, this re-release is different. Topic Sholay – The Final CutIt includes the original climax of the film along with two deleted scenes, which audiences will get to see in its full glory on the big screen for the first time. Additionally, the film has been restored in 4K with the original 70mm aspect ratio of 2.2:1. The sound has been restored using the original sound negative and the magnetic soundtrack preserved by the Film Heritage Foundation. Hence, it promises a great cinematic experience.

Since three new scenes have been added to the film, the makers had to go through the censor process. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) observed Sholay – The Final Cut It passed with ‘U’ certificate on November 24, 2025. Thankfully, no cuts were implemented. According to the censor certificate, the length of the film is 209.05 minutes. In other words, Sholay – The Final Cut 3 hours 29 minutes and 5 seconds long. The original 1975 version is said to be approximately 190 minutes, or 3 hours and 10 minutes long.
Interestingly, it was the then CBFC and the government of that time, which forced director Ramesh Sippy to change the ending of the film. The original ending featured Thakur (Sanjeev Kumar) killing the villain Gabbar Singh (Amjad Khan).
IHNS exclusively spoke to director Ramesh Sippy in October about the changed ending. He said, “In 1975, it was the time of Emergency. So, we couldn’t argue much. But the ending that I had kept had to be shot (at the last minute). This changed climax was the same ending that every film had at that time. The police comes and says, ‘Stop’So, it was a normal ending. This is what I didn’t like; There was no other reason. However, censor officials insisted that ‘he is an official. They should not take law into their hands. Actually, I can’t tell because he didn’t have any hands (laughs),”
