Vashu Bhagnani held an explosive press conference with select media members on 22 May, alleging that Tips producer Ramesh Taurani could not use songs from the former’s film, Biwi No. 1 (1999). The producer also alleged that the story of Hai Jawaani Toh Ishq Hona Hai could be similar to Biwi No. 1. Meanwhile, IHNS spoke to a source who provided the other side’s version.

IHNS spoke to a source who provided the other side’s version. The source said on condition of anonymity, “Vashu Bhagnani has lost the case in the Supreme Court today. This itself shows why the team of Kyun Hai Jawaani Toh Ishq Hona Hai is moving ahead confidently with the trailer launch tomorrow. If there was any substance to his allegations, would the makers have gone ahead in this manner? Mr Bhagnani said that he planned to make wife number 1 part 2 With David and Varun. However, after this Varun never signed any film with Pooja Entertainment. coolie number 1not even that much wife number 1. So where does the question of Varun being committed to such a film arise?”
At the press conference, Vashu Bhagnani claimed, “I was just a nominal producer on Coolie No. 1 (2020). It was David ji who handled 100% of the production and expenses. I paid David ji a huge amount to make that film; around Rs 70 crore, which he didn’t even deserve.”
Responding sharply to this, the source said, “This is ridiculous.” The vendors were not paid. coolie number 1. It was Mr. Bhagnani who had to make the payment. Still, the Dhawan family lost around Rs. Had to pay. He spent Rs 16 crore from his own pocket to clear the dues of the vendors as his reputation was being dragged into the matter. He did this so that the people working in the film do not remain helpless. And now, instead of accepting it, Mr. Bhagnani is making these claims publicly.
The source further commented, “Also, David Dhawan was never paid Rs 70 crore. If that were the case, David Dhawan would have been the highest paid director in the country at that time. Can Mr. Bhagnani show any documents in support of this claim or put any evidence in the public domain? Let him release the agreements, payment proofs or any paperwork. Till then, this is nothing but a wild claim.”
The source further added, “He is saying that Dhawan did not call him. But did he call him? He also did not. Some people were trying to reach Mr. Bhagnani, but he did not answer their calls. So to now suggest that only one party should have contacted him is unfair. Communication is a two-way street. It is also surprising that it was revealed months ago that ‘Chunari Chunari’ is a part of If you are young then you have to fall in love. Nevertheless, he decided to file the case just a month before his release. Why wait until the last minute? Why make noise only when the film’s trailer launch and release campaign is about to begin? Time itself raises questions.
The source again said, “If you are young then you have to fall in love not connected in any way wife number 1. That film was about a married man’s extramarital affair. If you are young then you have to fall in love It’s about double pregnancy. Both stories are completely different. Just because David Dhawan is directing the film and a popular old song is being used, no one can claim that it is a remake or a spiritual successor to Biwi No. 1. Anyway, the trailer will be released tomorrow, after which everyone will know the truth. Once the trailer comes out and people see that the film has nothing to do with Biwi No. 1, will Mr. Bhagnani and Pooja Entertainment apologise?”
Signing off on a candid note, the source said, “Dhawan has maintained silence for a long time, but this should not be seen as weakness. He has protected his dignity, paid people from his own pocket when required and moved on. But if false stories are being created now, the facts also need to come out.”
