Casting for the much-awaited mythological epic Ramayana The discussions are ongoing, and a new report suggests that actor Faisal Malik may play a key role in the ambitious project. According to an exclusive report in Hindustan Times, Malik has been chosen to play the role of Ravana’s younger brother Kumbhakaran in the large-scale adaptation directed by Nitish Tiwari.

Faisal Malik, who is widely recognized for his role in the popular series Panchayat and was recently seen Subedar With Anil Kapoor, the film is reportedly the latest addition to the developing group. Earlier reports had said that Bobby Deol’s name was being considered for the role of Kumbhkaran. However, recent developments indicate that Malik has now been finalized for the role. That said, neither the actors nor the producers have released any official confirmation regarding the casting.

Quoting a source close to the production, the report states that Malik has started filming for the project. “He joined Yash for the introductory Kumbhkaran scene at Prime Focus Studios in Mumbai, which was shot with an international action crew. The sequences are heavy on graphics – similar to Avatar.” The source further revealed that major fight sequences based on the character are yet to be filmed. He further added, “His height and heavy frame are perfect for his character.”

The casting update comes as fans continue to closely follow developments surrounding the film, especially after the first look at the project was revealed last year. The lead cast of the epic includes Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, Ravi Dubey and Sunny Deol. Meanwhile, several other names are also being revealed in connection with the film, including Raghav Juyal, Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, Lara Dutta, and Vivek Oberoi, although many of these casting details remain unconfirmed.

Earlier reports had indicated that audiences might get a special announcement about the remaining cast on March 27. However, the announcement has reportedly been delayed due to the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, which has affected programs in several countries.

The epic is being produced by Namit Malhotra and will have music composed by Academy Award winner AR Rahman and Hans Zimmer. Director Nitesh Tiwari has also written the screenplay with Sridhar Raghavan.

The makers have already confirmed its first installment Ramayana It will release during Diwali this year, while the second part is expected to release in Diwali 2027. With an international crew and large-scale visual effects, the film is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious cinematic projects in Indian cinema.
