Ahead of the Jubilee Hills Assembly by-election in Telangana, a controversy erupted when fake voter ID cards bearing photographs of actresses Tamannaah Bhatia, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Rakul Preet Singh were found at the same residential address. Same address, multiple fake IDs
According to reports, all three fake voter ID cards have the same address listed within the Jubilee Hills constituency, raising serious questions over the integrity of the voter list. The local office of the Election Commission has taken note of the irregularities and said verification is underway to trace those responsible.
Political stakes and candidates
The by-election for Jubilee Hills assembly seat is scheduled to be held on November 11 and the counting of votes is scheduled on November 14. The seat had become vacant after the death of BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath due to a heart attack in June. The ruling Congress party has fielded V. Naveen Yadav as its candidate, while the late MLA’s widow Maganti Sunita represents BRS (Bharat Rashtra Samithi). BJP has nominated Lankala Deepak Reddy to contest from this seat.
BRS alleges “thousands of fake voters”
The opposition BRS has accused the ruling Congress of carrying out large-scale voter registration fraud in the constituency. BRS working president KT Rama Rao alleged that the Congress manipulated the voter list by creating thousands of fake entries. “In one house, they registered 43 fake votes. Overall, they registered thousands of fake votes. We are practicing on this and will counter whatever is necessary,” KTR said.
Legal challenge and court comment
Following these allegations, BRS moved the Telangana High Court seeking action against the alleged irregularities. However, during a recent hearing, the High Court observed that since the State Election Commission is already revising the voter list, no additional directions were necessary at this stage.
The incident involving fake voter ID cards of prominent film personalities has added a dramatic twist to the already heated campaign in Jubilee Hills.
