Haq, starring Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam in the lead roles, is not performing well at the box office. The film, directed by Suparn Verma, earned estimated earnings in its opening week. Total Rs 13.45 crore in India. Rs 1 crore is coming on Thursday. Although the decline from Wednesday is very small, the trend still needs to improve.
The film will now enter its second week, facing new release, De De Pyaar De 2 starring Ajay Devgan, Rakul Preet and R Madhavan. Depending on how the quirky rom-com performs will determine how far HAQ can go. If DDPD 2 receives positive response and performs well, it will limit the box office potential of Emraan Hashmi’s film.
Nevertheless, both films can exist together because they cater to different audiences. HAQ will cross Rs. 15 crore mark in the second weekend and will then move towards the end of The Taj Story. It will be interesting to see whether the Yami Gautam-led film is able to surpass Paresh Rawal’s hit film and perform well.
Since the reception has been mostly positive, this should translate into foot traffic in the long run. The makers need to promote it aggressively for a few weeks so that audiences give it a chance in theatres.
