Amid the ongoing inheritance dispute within the Kapoor family, late industrialist Sanjay Kapoor’s sister Mandhira Kapoor Smith has spoken out publicly following a defamation case filed against her by Sanjay Kapoor’s widow Priya Sachdeva Kapoor.

Speaking to Republic TV, Mandhira called the development unfortunate and said issues related to the family’s property have come to light recently. He supported claims made earlier by his mother Rani Kapoor, alleging that Rani Kapoor Family Trust Was created through forgery and manipulation.
Mandhira said, “It’s unfortunate that we’re finding this out now… and it’s something that we have to uncover because my father’s entire estate was left to my mother. And it was to be divided after my mother was the sole beneficiary. It was to be divided between the three siblings and… the grandchildren.”
When asked if she believed that Priya Sachdeva Kapoor had pressured Sanjay Kapoor into matters related to the trust, Mandhira refused to speculate. “I’m not going to comment on that… (but) I don’t think (my brother) was the kind of person who would have done that,” she said.
Mandhira also told about the impact of this controversy on her mother Rani Kapoor. “What happened to her is extremely unfair. You know she lost her husband. She lost her son. She lost the legacy that they built together. So we want to make sure she gets that peace,” he said.
Addressing the situation involving Karisma Kapoor’s children, Samaira and Kiyan, Mandhira said that the children have been deprived of what she believes is their true interest. “My father was very clear that my mother was the sole beneficiary and the grandchildren would be taken care of,” she said.
Speaking about Karisma Kapoor, Mandhira said, “Like any mother she wants to make sure that the kids are safe. She’s had a big loss in her life. She’s a fantastic support system for her kids and she wants to make sure that her kids are safe and you know she’s had such a big loss anyway.”
As a result of the inheritance dispute, a defamation suit has also been filed by Priya Sachdeva Kapoor under section 223 of the Indian Civil Defense Code (BNSS). The complaint alleges that Mandhira made defamatory statements through interviews, podcasts and digital platforms, causing reputational damage at a critical time after Sanjay Kapoor’s death.
Responding to the allegations, Mandhira rejected the claims of malicious intent. She said, “I’m not… being malicious or anything. If that’s the truth, I can’t do anything about it. I’m not here to lie.” Raising questions on the basis of the case, she said, “What is defamation here? What is the extent of defamation? He may not like what is being said but if it is true then I can’t do anything about it… I am really telling the truth.”
The legal proceedings related to Sanjay Kapoor’s property and defamation case are still going on.
