Tamil cinema legends Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan are reuniting after four decades. While speculations about a two-hero project with Thalaivar and Ulga Nayagan are all over the internet, Raj Kamal International Films has announced its next big production venture, and that is, #Thalaivar173.
Rajinikanth’s 173rd film will be produced by Kamal Haasan under his home production, while Sundar C will direct it. Earlier, Rajinikanth and director Sundar C had worked together in the 1997 film Arunachalam. Although the genre of the upcoming venture has not been revealed yet, it is likely to be a full-fledged mass action entertainer. While dropping the announcement, Kamal Haasan shared a few pictures. In one of the pictures shared, both the legends are seen hugging each other.
The official statement shared by Kamal Haasan and his production company, Raaj Kamal Films International read, “Superstar Rajinikanth is all set to headline the magnum opus #Thalaivar173 under Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International banner, directed by Sundar C.”
Furthermore, the note reads, “This historic collaboration not only unites two great forces of Indian cinema, but also celebrates five decades of friendship and brotherhood between superstars Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, a bond that has inspired generations of artists and audiences alike. Celebrating 44 years of Rajkamal Films International, #Thalaivar173 is a historic collaboration conceptualized by Kamal Haasan and R. Mahendran The production unites superstar Rajinikanth’s magnetic screen presence with Sundar C’s direction.”
The film is scheduled to release on Pongal 2027. It will go on floors after the completion of Rajinikanth’s film with Nelson, Jailer 2. Meanwhile, both Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan are reported to be reuniting for a separate film, the director for which is yet to be selected.
