Jamie said that Jesse was about 10-12 years old when doctors discovered a tumor in his neck. Because the tumor was entangled with nerves, the surgery carried serious risks. “The doctors told us that if they operated, he might lose his eyesight or become paralyzed,” he recalled. The family initially tried treatment in India, but the first surgery did not go as planned. Jamie described the experience as devastating for the entire family. “The first surgery failed and that phase was extremely difficult for all of us,” he said. He said his daily life began to revolve around hospital visits and medical consultations.

According to Jamie, Jesse was also given heavy medicines for a long time. He shared, “At one point he was taking about 50-60 pills a day as doctors hoped the tumor would shrink.” Despite intensive treatment, there was no significant improvement in his condition. Eventually, the family moved to the United States in search of better medical options. During that trip, he was advised to consult experts in New York. After further evaluation, Jessie had another surgery there, which successfully removed the tumor.

Recalling those years, Jamie said the ordeal changed his family’s perspective. “It was a very difficult time. We would never want to return to that lifestyle,” he said, referring to persistent anxiety and medical struggles. She said the experience strengthened the family’s faith and resilience, especially her father, veteran comedian Johnny Lever.

Today, Jesse has recovered and has moved forward with his creative career, working as a musician and artist as well as appearing in films. Jamie said the family now looks back on that period with gratitude that he was able to overcome such a serious health challenge.
