Jana Nayakan’s release starring Thalapathy Vijay in the lead role is in limbo as the film is yet to be certified by the CBFC. Initially, the film was scheduled to release in theaters on January 9, 2026, coinciding with Pongal. However, now it looks like the film won’t be released until April 2026.

According to a recent post by Canadian distribution company York Cinemas, Thalapathy Vijay starrer Jana Nayagan will not release before April 30, 2026. The official statement was shared by the team through its social media handles.
Sharing the update, the team wrote, “Dear Patron, please note that the film Jana Nayakan will not release before April 30.”
Jana Nayakan starring Thalapathy Vijay is being touted as the superstar’s last cinematic appearance. Directed by H. Vinoth, the film tells the story of Vetri Kondan, a former police officer and convict, who adopts a young girl named Viji and is determined to raise her into a strong and independent woman. He also convinces him to join the army despite his fear of violence.
Amidst these events, a grave threat is looming over India, which could potentially lead to the annihilation of its people. As Vetri Condon finds himself trapped in these circumstances, a personal vendetta also emerges, forcing him to take matters into his own hands and expose the system responsible for starting the crisis.
Apart from Vijay, the film also stars Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamita Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narayan, Priyamani, Sunil and many others in lead roles.
Earlier, the film was scheduled for Pongal release, but failed to gain CBFC certification on time. The controversy led to judicial intervention, which further postponed the release. However, now it looks like the film may finally be ready for release.
Initially there were reports that the film could be released in theaters by the end of February. However, Thalapathy Vijay’s film Theri is expected to be re-released this month and with the recent post from the Canadian distributor, it doesn’t look like the film will be hitting the big screens any time soon.
