Earlier last week, the film had emerged as the highest-grossing film of all time in Karnataka, surpassing the original Kantara. The film is standing firmly at the box office. At its current pace, it will be worth around Rs. Estimated to be collected. 230-235 crores, a staggering Rs. 60 crores more than the previous record earning.
The increased prices of tickets are playing an important role in huge earnings. A few weeks before the film’s release, the state government mandated a price cap on movie tickets. The film’s producers went to court to challenge the move and the court stayed the government order. If this had not happened, the film would still have become a record grosser in the state and might have even reached Rs. 200 crore figure, but it will take more time.
The film has sold around 70 lakh tickets in the state and is likely to sell around 85 lakh tickets. This will be more than films like KGF (75 lakh) and KGF 2 (70 lakh), but less than Kantara, which had around one crore viewers. Of course, if tickets had been at normal levels, the film would have come close to its predecessor’s numbers, perhaps equaling or even exceeding them.
