Kantara Chapter 1 box office: Close to Rs 600 crore worldwide, above USD 10 million overseas

Kantara: Chapter 1 collected around USD 2.25 million in its second weekend overseas, taking it to over USD 10 million. The total gross is US$10.60 million (Rs 94 crore), taking the total to US$10.60 million (Rs 94 crore). 499.50 crores from India, it was made worldwide at Rs. Gets an income of Rs. Approximately Rs 593.50 crore. It will cross Rs. Rs 600 crore today.

The film performed best in the Middle East, which was the only region to take a good start. However, it could have been maintained a little better. Australia got off to a slow start but continued to perform well and are now on course for a very good finish. Tamil markets, Malaysia and Singapore have done well, while Europe has also done quite well. The disappointment came from North America, where the United States had a mediocre release, while Canada faced poor releases due to external factors.

The film is expected to gross around US$14 million throughout its run. USD 15 million is a stretch, but it’s close enough. Reaching US$10 million seemed a far-fetched goal after the film opened last week, but the film has done well to get there.

These are great numbers for a Kannada film. Since the Kannada diaspora abroad is not very large, it does not have the same basic business as other South Indian language films. In that case, it depended on other languages, especially Telugu and Hindi, for foreign business. Hindi’s overseas business reflects North India more, and the film gives more of a glimpse of Maharashtra. This left it with Telugu. The Telugu version performed strongly in India, but overseas, perhaps it faced premium-priced ticket prices, reducing its reach.

With these thoughts, it was wise not to have high expectations from the film overseas, but it ended up being the opposite. The film was benchmarked against films such as KGF 2 and Pushpa 2, both of which had huge grosses in North India and Tamil Nadu. Unlike India, where expectations were just talk, abroad real money was invested in these expectations and those who did so suffered huge losses. For example, the breakeven price in North America was set at US$10 million, which was ridiculous. The film will struggle to reach even half of this.
