Comedian-actor Kapil Sharma has once again come into controversy. Earlier this year, Sharma is now facing heat from the Maharashtra Navneman Sena (MNS) after the news came into the news on a bullet outside its restaurant in Canada and hurting the sentiments of the Sikh community.
Kapil Sharma, referring to Mumbai as ‘Bombay’, faced MNS anger: “A humble request-cum-warning is being released”
On Thursday, MNS leader Ameya Khopkar, who is the head of the party’s film Wing, issued a strict warning to the comedian to allow the comedian to refer to his Netflix show The Great Indian Kapil show as “Bombay” or “Bombay”. Khopkar said that if it continues, MNS will start a strong movement against Sharma.
“The city is named Mumbai. In Kapil Sharma’s show, we have long seen that the city is referred to as Bombay or Bombay. It’s not just an objection, it’s anger. If you can call other cities with their appropriate names like Chennai, Bangalore, and Kolkata, then insulting the people of Mumbai, insulting the people of Mumbai,”
He further said, “If this is done by mistake, fix the mistake. Whoever comes to your show, whether they are celebrities or anchors, tell them that they are not called Mumbai to Bombay or Bombay. They will have to say Mumbai. If this does not, MNS will start a strong movement.”
The warning went viral after a clip from the show, in which actress Huma Qureshi referred to Mumbai as “Bombay”, speaking about her bond with her brother Saqib Salim. The episode also included Shilpa Shetty and Shamita Shetty.
Kapil Sharma is currently hosting the third season of the Great Indian Kapil show, which premiered on Netflix on 21 June.
