Filmmaker Karan Johar has won a legal victory in the Delhi High Court, as a verdict is pronounced in his favor in a case regarding his name, image and misuse on social media without his consent.

The court confirmed that Johar’s personality rights should be protected, and major technology companies including Google, Meta, and X should be directed to hand over basic subscribers related to alleged violations along with log records. In addition, the e-commerce platform redbal was ordered to remove the material considered objectionable. A detailed order is expected at the next hearing.
Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora clarified that, “defendants 14, 15 and 16, including social networking companies Google, Meta and X, will supply IT log records in addition to basic customer information details.” The court also called other online platforms such as Gipi and Pinterest, which is listed in the case as 2–5 and 7-10, which is to comply as part of the proceedings.
Regarding the interim relief application, the judge said, “In IA (Interim Relief application), I will pass a detailed order. Prohibition will be given.” Redbal’s lawyer confirmed that it would begin to remove the violation material within a week. Earlier, the court had asked Johar to list the URL or positions properly, which he considered aggressive or misleading, including whether the material was defamation, vulgar, or otherwise objectionable.
The decision is anticipated in favor of other celebrities like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan, where the High Court has recently unauthorized someone’s image, voice, or name, especially for the invasion of privacy through technologies such as AI.
