Lara Dutta reveals stressful days in Dubai amid Israel-Iran conflict; Thanks to UAE government for security
Dutta revealed that he has been in Dubai since the beginning of the conflict and has spent a lot of time in the city over the last few years. The actor is currently there with his daughter, while her husband, former tennis champion Mahesh Bhupathi, is traveling for work. “We have been in Dubai since the beginning of what is being called the Israel-Iran war. The UAE, Dubai, has been my home for the last three years. I have spent a lot of time here. I was actually shooting in a studio in Dubai on the 28th,” Lara said in the video.
Recalling the moment when she realized that the situation had worsened, the actor revealed that she heard the sound of explosions while she was working on the sets. “We started hearing explosions overhead, ran out of the studio, and saw missiles being intercepted. It’s been a while, I can’t lie, there were stressful days. I have my daughter with me, Mahesh was out for work, thankfully he wasn’t in Dubai.” Dutta also admitted that the last few days have been volatile, especially with fighter planes flying overhead and loud explosions being heard across the city. He said that despite the tense environment, he did not feel unsafe.
“But I just want to say that we are nervous, and it is scary. There are a lot of fighter planes flying overhead, there is very loud thunder. Even though we live in a villa in a very safe neighborhood, the windows shake, the house and doors rattle, and it is disturbing. But I have not once felt unsafe.” Speaking about the response of the authorities, the actor praised the UAE government for its efforts in ensuring the safety and assurance of residents. “I just want to say that the UAE government has done an incredible job. I think, for every single person – I won’t speak for anyone else – we felt really looked after. We felt wanted, we felt safe, no matter what our nationality or where we’re from.”
“We feel like we matter, we matter. The UAE government, as a resident, as someone living in this city, is making sure they do everything in their power to protect us and keep us safe. I’m amazed. My gardener is mowing my lawn every day, watering the plants.” Dutta also spoke about his admiration for ordinary workers who continue their daily routines despite stressful circumstances.
“I have a lot of respect and admiration for the normal, ordinary people who don’t have a choice about wanting to get out, who are running this country.” Also, the actor revealed that he and his family are currently exploring flight options to return to Mumbai, mainly because the situation is stressful especially for children. “We’re actually considering flights; not too many, but there are a few, Etihad and Emirates. But we are considering flights to come back to Mumbai. Even more so, because I think the kids are a lot more nervous about this. We’re like adults too. We keep it together for the kids. So we’re considering flights and trying to get out any way we can.”
Reflecting on past experiences of conflict, the actor also compared his time spent in India during tensions between the neighboring countries. “I was in India when there was a war between India and Pakistan. We saw how well our country protected us there. It is the same here.” Concluding his message, Dutta expressed hope that the conflict would soon subside, stressing that citizens should never live in fear because of war. “No citizen deserves to live in fear or be trapped in a war that destabilizes the entire region. I hope common sense prevails. Whoever is making these decisions will be wise to make better decisions. Until then. We will continue.”
