This strategic release window gives the film massive scale gains, the promise of long holidays and a chance to dominate the box office if there is strong buzz.
A source close to the development says, “Set against the backdrop of war, there couldn’t be a better time for a film as grand as Love & War. Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s films are known for their larger than life storytelling, music with top stars like Ranbir, Alia and Vicky and all the elements that make for a perfect big screen experience during a national holiday.”
This is also Bhansali’s first Independence Day release, and now, all eyes are on it. With the filmmaker’s record of films, vision and a powerful star cast, Love & War is set to be one of the biggest cinematic events of 2026.
Independence Day releases have historically been one of the most profitable slots for Hindi cinema, with blockbusters like Gadar 2 and Stree 2 benefiting from patriotic fervor and long weekend audiences.
For those unaware, the film was initially scheduled to hit the screens on March 20, 2026. The source revealed, “Although around 125 days of shooting have been completed, the makers are still yet to complete a major portion of the shooting and hence, the release date has been pushed to August 14. An official announcement regarding the same will be made soon.”
After the Mumbai schedule, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal will fly to Italy for a major schedule with the team of SLB’s film. The director is going to shoot the climax scene of the film in Sicily, Italy.
