Note: 2.5 / 5
Madharaasi, with Sivakarthikeyan in the main role, struck the big screens on September 5, 2025. The romantic psychological action thriller is produced by Ar Murugadoss, with the actors Rukmini Vasanth and Vidyut Jammwal playing co-borders.
If you can’t wait to watch the film in theaters this week, here is IHNS’s criticism to discover.
The intrigue
Madharaasi explores the story of Raghuram, an orphan with a traumatic past. While fighting with his mental state, he meets Malathy and falls in love with her.
Meanwhile, a notorious gang of arms smugglers from the northern regions of India plans to enter the Tamil Nadu, with the Nia Prem officer and his team determined to arrest them.
However, things take a dark turn when Malathy is inadvertently involved in the plans of the smuggling gang. Now, what Raghuram does to save his love and how his mental condition influences his decisions, forms the knot of history.
Good
Madharaasi presents a unique plot, recalling the blockbusters of Murugadoss Thuppakki and Kaththi. With Sivakarthikeyan playing an imperfect character, the actor embodies him at best his capacities, brilliant as a star of the action.
Madharaasi is elegant from the start, keeping the flair intact and doing careful work with it. The action parts stand out, keeping viewers on the edge of their seats with creativity and energy. With a strong story as a backbone, the production value is remarkable.
Vidyut Jammwal brings a dominant presence, while Rukmini Vasanth offers adorable performance, helping the film to balance the signature factor that we love in Ar Murugadoss.
In technical aspects, Madharaasi excels in cinematography. SUDEEP ELAMON captures several beautiful shots. However, musical scores and Airudh Ravichander tracks feel disappointing and fail to leave a strong impression this time.
The bad
While Madharaasi offers a new scenario in Tamil cinema, he struggles with an intrigue and a thin scenario of paper. The rhythm of the film is lagging behind in the first half and tests the patience of the public in the second.
The initial half includes three different songs placed closely together, none of which adds a lot to history. If only Ar Murugadoss had written a tighter script, these characters and the plot could really take off.
A key element of Madharaasi is the love story between Raghu and Malathy. This romance pushes the protagonist into the world of crime and serves as central motivation. Unfortunately, the love story lacks depth, feels illogical and is sidelined by the highlight despite the chemistry of SK and Rukmini.
With an incoherent execution and a bad edition, this star of Sivakarthikeyan weakens in many points, despite his captivating action sequences.
Performance
Madharaasi rests strongly on the shoulders of Sivakarthikeyan, and he delivers. The Amaran star proves once again why he is among the most reliable commercial players today. Whether it is action, comedy or dance, SK holds the film with its charm and its charisma, emphasizing why it is distinguished from its contemporaries.
Vidyut Jammwal makes a strong impression with his presence on the intimidating screen; Even a single look at him attracts attention.
Biju Menon draws the best party with its limited role, while Rukmini Vasanth free itself from the tropes of typical eye candy to offer a strong and emotionally anchored performance. Its role adds value to the plot and stands out.

The verdict
Madharaasi is an exciting action artist who offers brief cinematographic highs but lacks emotional and narrative depth. While the story had the potential to become the next “Kathhi” or “Thuppakki”, the film failed to execute.
However, Madhraasi offers a decent theatrical experience, in particular given the recent work by Ar Murugadoss. If you want to look at the complete transformation of the Sivakarthikeyan action hero, this film may well be for you.
