Justice Senthilkumar Ramamurthy issued the order while hearing applications filed by Reliance Industries Limited and its media arm Jio Studios. The makers had approached the court seeking immediate protection against possible copyright infringement.
In its petition, Reliance alleged that several intermediaries, including internet service providers and cable TV operators, could stream or broadcast the film illegally without authorization. The company also presented a certification issued by the Central Board of Film Certification, identifying it as the producer of the film.
The court said that the film is scheduled to release on March 19 and in such cases, the risk of irreparable harm is significant if interim relief is not granted. Further, it was admitted that such order may also affect the business interests of the respondents.
Balancing these views, the court directed Reliance to compensate the respondents for any potential loss arising from the injunction. Subject to this condition, it restrained the respondents from unlawfully transmitting or broadcasting the film until April 15, 2026.
The court also issued notice to the defendants in the case, the next hearing on which will be on April 15.
