The restriction of time is often seen as a quality, especially when it comes to job interview. However, a viral post on Linkedin recently provoked a hot debate online after a business owner claimed that he has rejected a job applicant to arrive very early for an interview.
Matthew Prewet, the owner of a cleaning service in Atlanta, shared his experience on LinkedIn, which revealed that a candidate for an office administrator role came 25 minutes before the scheduled time, which he quoted as a major factor in his decision to hire the applicant.
“I had a candidate shown 25 minutes ago for an interview last week. It was a major decisive factor as to why I did not put him,” Previght wrote, inviting opinion about “significantly” arriving for an interview.
As the post began to receive traction, the prevet clarified the reason, saying that it is generally advised while arriving a little early, proceeding more than time can indicate bad time management or lack of social awareness. He said, “It is good to look quickly.
Prevet emphasized that the interview etiquette generally allows candidates to arrive five to fifteen minutes before, but anything beyond this can come as inconsistent.
The post quickly went viral, dividing the opinion on social media platforms. While some supported the prevents’ stance, others were hurry to defend the candidate.
A user commented, “Not at all. What is ridiculous assessment. Send him your way. I will hire him immediately.” Another said, “What if he had the only transport bus, or he had no control over his arrival time? He did what he had to do not to be late.”
