Mirai closed its box office, with a little less than Rs. 1,999. 10 lakh arrived yesterday on its fourth Thursday. The fourth week stood at Rs. 2.40 crore, almost all of this came from the weekend while business fell sharply on Monday. The digital premiere today marks the official end of its broadcast.
The Teja Sajja starrer grossed Rs. 9,999. 102.50 crore in India, and another Rs. 1,999. 33.75 crore ($3.81 million) came from the overseas market. This adds up to a worldwide box office gross of Rs. 1,999. 136.25 crore for the film, making it the second highest grosser for Teja, just behind his previous film, Hanu-Man, which grossed nearly Rs. 300 million worldwide.
Early on, the film had looked like it would score higher than it did, but business fell during the week. The situation stabilized a bit during the second weekend, then it held up well, benefiting from the Dusshera holiday period. The third week collected a pretty solid Rs. 8 crore, despite competition from They Call Him OG.
Mirai is over-indexed in major centers, which is generally the case for tier 2 star films. As a result, Nizam got the best numbers, at almost Rs. 9,999. 35 crore gross, which is almost half of Telugu states. Karnataka, which is basically the city of Bengaluru, has crossed Rs. 10 million. Films from major centers also generally do better overseas, which was also the case here, with the US earning a fantastic $3 million.
There was also a Hindi dubbed version of the film. Since Hanu-Man was a mini breakout of sorts that collected over Rs. 50 crores nett, which raised certain expectations from the film. They didn’t materialize, but ultimately it did pretty well for a no-par movie and of course, the Hindi gross numbers, even though not many, gave it bragging rights for 100cr more in India.
