The makers of an under-production, untitled Chiranjeevi starrer directed by Bobby had assumed that Mohanlal would appear in a cameo as a goodwill gesture. For this role, director Bobby approached Mohanlal, relying on the cordial real-life relationship between the two legends, who had never shared screen space before. The expectation was that Mohanlal would play this role without remuneration.
However, the plans hit a halt when Mohanlal reportedly surprised the producers by quoting a fee of Rs. 30 crores for cameo. The demand irked the producers, forcing them to immediately seek alternative options and approach a Telugu star willing to step in without fees.
“At the moment, Telugu producers can’t afford to pay Rs 30 crore to any leading man even for a full-fledged role, leave alone a cameo,” says a source close to the development.
The episode clearly highlights the financial pressures currently faced by the Telugu film industry, where even major collaborations are being re-evaluated due to rising costs and tight budgets.
