The Delhi High Court on Friday indicated that it will issue interim directions to protect the personality rights of Malayalam actor Mohanlal. The case was heard by Justice Jyoti Singh, who also approved the actor’s request to include additional parties as defendants in his ongoing case.

This development comes after an earlier hearing, where the court had allowed Mohanlal to withdraw his initial interim petition, while giving him the liberty to re-file it with more detailed information. Acting on that freedom, the actor has now approached the court again with an amended application.
During the latest proceedings, the court directed Mohanlal to submit a detailed note of the alleged infringing relations of the defendants involved in the case. The move is aimed at ensuring clarity on specific instances where their personality rights have been violated.
The Court has, in recent times, dealt with several similar cases relating to unauthorized use of identities of public figures. It had earlier issued a John Doe order to protect the personality rights of actor Sonakshi Sinha and yoga guru Ramdev. In comparable cases, the coordination bench has heard cases involving singer Jubin Nautiyal, Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar and actor Kajol, R. Such security has been provided to Madhavan and Jr NTR. Salman Khan has also filed a similar petition.
Additionally, courts have previously granted relief in favor of celebrities like Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Nagarjuna, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and filmmaker Karan Johar. Recently, journalist Sudhir Chaudhary reportedly secured protection against misleading AI-generated videos circulating online. A similar John Doe order was also passed in favor of podcaster Raj Shamani, with the court noting his prominence in the digital content sector.
On the professional front, Mohanlal has a plethora of films in his kitty. He will be seen next time PatriotDirected by Mahesh Narayanan, also starring Mammootty and Kunchacko Boban. The political drama marks a rare collaboration between Mohanlal and Mammootty and is scheduled for a theatrical release on April 23, 2026. He is also working on an unnamed project, L366Directed by Tharun Murthy, which is currently in production. Another major project in their lineup scene 3Directed by Jeetu Joseph. The film is expected to conclude Georgekutty’s widely followed story, with Meena, Ansiba Hassan and Esther Anil reprising their roles. It is currently targeted for release on May 21, 2026.
Apart from these, Mohanlal is also associated to hitA project that has been in development since the pandemic and with a few other ventures in the pipeline, has yet to hit theaters.
