Filmmaker Mohit Suri has addressed the ongoing speculations about a possible collaboration with Ranbir Kapoor, clarifying that the actor is not a part of his next project. Rumors had been circulating for over a month that Suri and Kapoor were teaming up for a gangster-themed film backed by Yash Raj Films. The report had generated considerable interest, given the director’s track record with intense romantic dramas and Kapoor’s recent choice of diverse roles.

Speaking to Variety India, Suri put an end to the speculations, saying, “Ranbir Kapoor is not in my next film. I really want to work with him and I hope he feels the same about me. I went to meet him to discuss and intend to work together. Meanwhile, this is the news that we are already doing a film together.”
He further talked about his equation with Kapoor, noting that the actor has followed his work closely over the years. Suri shared that Kapoor often speaks AwarapanA film that did not perform well at the box office but has since developed a cult following. “He is one of the few actors and great stars who appreciates a film like this Awarapan However, it flopped when it released,” Suri said, adding that Kapoor considers it one of his best works.
Highlighting this, Suri pointed out that while most actors reference commercially successful projects, Kapoor’s appreciation for a lesser-known film reflects a deep understanding of cinema. He added that Kapoor’s ability to bring a layered performance matches the kind of stories he is attracted to.
Suri concluded, “I think he has the depth and layered nuances that my kind of films need. But no, there is no Ranbir Kapoor in my film at the moment. I wish it was.”
Meanwhile, Kapoor is busy with multiple projects. Currently he is shooting RamayanaDirected by Nitesh Tiwari, it is planned to be released in two parts, with the first installment expected to arrive during Diwali 2026. love and warDirected by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and co-starring Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal.
