The Bombay High Court has dismissed the Rs 100 crore defamation suit filed by Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui against his brother Shamsuddin Siddiqui and his estranged wife Anjana Pandey, as the actor and his legal team did not appear in the court for the hearing.

Nawazuddin accused his younger brother, who was also his manager since 2008, of fraud and abusing his trust. He claimed that he gave Shamsuddin control over his bank accounts and finances so he could focus on acting, but alleged that his brother purchased several properties under his name – including flats, land, a farmhouse in Mumbai, a property in Dubai and luxury vehicles, making Nawazuddin feel they were in co-ownership.
The actor also alleged that when he removed Shamsuddin as his manager in 2020, Shamsuddin influenced his ex-wife to file false cases against him. Nawaz accused both of them of sharing hurtful videos and social media posts, causing public embarrassment, mental distress, postponement of film projects and damage to his reputation.
Why was the case dismissed?
The High Court dismissed the case because Nawazuddin and his lawyers missed several court dates and did not pursue the case. The court led by Justice Jitendra Jain called it “non-prosecution”, meaning a case cannot proceed if the person filing it is absent.

Nawazuddin had sought compensation of Rs 100 crore for the loss and stress caused to him, a permanent ban on posting anything defamatory on his brother and ex-wife, removal of all negative content and a public apology.
