The film ‘O’ Romeo’ starring Shahid Kapoor and Trupti Dimri in the lead roles is going to be released on the big screen in a few hours. The film closed its advance bookings at a slow pace. It sold around 33,000 tickets across the top two national chains, PVR Inox and Cinepolis, for the opening day. Of these, approximately 27,000 admissions were recorded in PVR Inox alone.
Considering the huge budget, grand scale, and ensemble cast, advance sales for O’Romeo are quite disappointing. This may be due to the low response to its promos and songs. If the promotional assets had worked well with audiences, it could have seen good progress.
Still, the real test begins tomorrow. If the film succeeds in impressing the audience and proves to be a solid entertainer, then its sales will see a good growth. Additionally, Valentine’s Day is also expected to help as the film has a love story at its core. Based on current trends, O’Romeo is looking for a single-digit start in the range of Rs. 4 Crore to Rs. 7 crores, with an accurate prediction of Rs. 6.50 crores.
Making things difficult is the fact that the film is very expensive, costing Rs. 100 crores for production and release. Non-dramatic recoveries are good at face value, but leave a lot to be desired for theatrics. Shahid Kapoor’s ‘Teri Baton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya’ also had similar advance sales. However, it maintained a steady hold for a long time and eventually emerged as a successful venture. O Romeo should aim for the same, if not better. Let’s see how the fourth collaboration of Shahid and director Vishal Bhardwaj turns out.
