Paresh Rawal has claimed that the basic idea behind this is oh my god 2 Coming from his side, he said that there were significant changes in the film after Akshay Kumar came on board. Speaking to Vicky Lalwani, the veteran actor also alleged that he did not get credit for the story or concept despite being closely involved in the initial development.
Paresh Rawal claims that OMG 2 was based on his original idea; Says he left after script changes: “There was no need for the divine character”
Paresh Rawal recalls developing the original concept
Rawal said that he first approached filmmaker Amit Rai with the idea after watching Confluence route. He said, “I had contacted its director Amit Rai Confluence routeAnd asked him if he was planning any other film. I admire him a lot. I told him, ‘I have an idea. Let’s sit down and write it.’ I told them I’m not a writer, but I can contribute ideas and help identify where we’re going wrong because I understand the script to some extent.”
He further explained, “The story is about a boy who is caught masturbating, and a video of the incident goes viral, making his life miserable. His father was a tourist guide at the Khajuraho temple. Amit suggested him to become a part-time priest at the Mahakal temple. We developed the script together and even roped in sexologist Dr Prakash Kothari. We had several meetings because our intention was to make the film educational, entertaining and not vulgar. We were deeply involved in the process.”
‘There was no need for a divine character’
According to Rawal, the project was never envisioned as a sequel. Oh God And there was no divine figure in it. He said, “Our main idea was to have a biker father guide, not God, in the first one.” Oh GodGod appeared because the matter was against God. But this film was about a father’s fight to get justice for his son. There was no need for a divine character. We wanted someone like Kader Khan’s character Lucky Alexander”
He further revealed that he had initially considered Ajay Devgan and Salman Khan for the role of the biker: “I didn’t approach Akshay because people would have assumed that it was oh my god 2Even though that wasn’t the plan.”
How did Akshay Kumar come on board?
Rawal said that he later learned that Akshay Kumar wanted to do the film when the script reached him through producer Ashwin Varde. He further added, “I felt like we were still figuring things out. We also had a meeting with Vipul Shah of Optimystix. He also asked about Akshay and I said if I wanted to make with him I would have contacted him directly. Akshay and I were partners in this.” Oh God. I didn’t need anyone to bridge the gap. After a few days, Amit Rai called and told that Akshay wants to do this film. The issue was that Amit had temporarily written ‘OMG 2’ on the script because the genre was similar.”
He further added, “Ashwin Varde was present in one of our meetings. That’s when he decided that he wanted to do it with Akshay.”
Why did Paresh Rawal reject the film?
Rawal said that Akshay later requested him to be a part of the project, but he declined because he no longer recognized the story: “I spoke to Akshay. He asked me to do the film. I told him, ‘No. This is not the film I had imagined. God has no role in this story.’ He tried to convince me, but I was living with the script from the beginning. I knew exactly what it was supposed to be. So I left.”
The actor also claimed that he did not receive any acknowledgment for his contribution to the original concept: “The saddest thing is that I was not even given credit for the story or the concept. My name was not mentioned anywhere.”
He further added, “Amit, Akshay, Ashwin, Ajay Devgan, Karan Johar and Salman Khan… everyone knows it was my idea and my story. Ajay and Salman probably said no because of the subject. They thought it could be controversial. I tried to explain the concept to them.”
Neither Akshay Kumar, nor director Amit Rai nor the producer oh my god 2 At the time of writing there has been no public response to Paresh Rawal’s claims.
