The Brigands of Rattlecreek is an upcoming thriller directed by renowned filmmaker Park Chan Wook. The Korean auteur is currently presiding over the upcoming 79th Cannes Film Festival as jury president, becoming the first South Korean to lead the main competition panel. Additionally, he is also trying his hand at an A-lister led film project. According to a report from DEADLINE, he has brought on board Matthew McConaughey, Austin Butler, Pedro Pascal, and Tang Wei to star in his next film.

S. With a screenplay by Craig Zahler, and a script by Patrick Wachsberger, a veteran company will handle international sales of the film. Park himself will step in as one of the producers, representing Moho Film, which will also include Bradley Fisher. Baek Jisun, Mike Medavoy and Georgia Cacandes have been named executive producers for the Moho film.
According to the film description, it is the story of a sheriff and a doctor who join forces to take revenge on bandits who wreak havoc on the residents of a small town. They use torrential storm tactics to create an atmosphere of fear and steal from humble people. Based on the West, the story will be a mix of various themes that often follow Park’s projects, including vengeance and retribution, as well as a display of violence along with themes of family and harmony.
Matthew McConaughey has long been attached to the project and was lined up for the lead role in 2019 when it was acquired by Amazon. Since then, Austin Butler, Pedro Pascal and Tang Wei have joined the film directed by Park Chan Wook, with whom the Chinese actress previously worked on Decision to Leave.
