Patriot starring Mammootty and Mohanlal in lead roles has collected Rs. Earning of Rs 5 crore was done on the third day (Sunday). Compared to Saturday, it registered a decline of 5 percent. The film collected Rs. 50,000 in its first weekend. Earned Rs 18.75 crore at Kerala box office. Considering the scale of the film and the mega ensemble cast, the film should have registered a surge on the third day, yet, it is a reasonable hold.
Directed by Mahesh Narayanan, the espionage thriller is trying to cross the Rs. 20 crore mark till first Monday. If it manages to hold well in the coming days then it will open around Rs 2000. 25 crores to Rs. 28 crores gross.
Patriot received positive to mixed reception among audiences. Had the film received tremendous word-of-mouth, it would have recorded a much better weekend. Nevertheless, the film recorded the biggest opening weekend for Mammootty in Kerala and worldwide. It has the potential to go on to have a solid dramatic run, depending on how it performs in the second and third weeks.
The challenge for Patriot is to penetrate the Rs. 100 crore gross box office club in its home turf and challenges the lifetime of Thudaaram, Loka Chapter One: Chandra and Vaaza 2. Although it is not easy due to its mixed reception, still, the possibilities cannot be ignored.
