Petitioner lawyer Shakeel Abbas alleges story of taaj Presents “fabricated and inflammatory material” regarding the origins of the Taj Mahal, contradicting the established historical consensus and scholarly writings. The petition claims that the film’s fictional claims threaten to erode people’s faith in history, incite communal unrest and potentially harm the international reputation of the Taj Mahal, which is recognized globally as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The petition urges the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to review the certification given to the film and direct necessary cuts, if necessary, to protect communal harmony across the country. Furthermore, the PIL requests that a clear disclaimer be added to the film, clarifying that it presents a disputed narrative rather than established fact.
According to the petition, the film contains “deeply divisive scenes” that can incite communal tension and disrupt public peace. The petition also noted the promotion of controversial statements by political leaders and fringe groups, raising concerns over the possibility of nationwide unrest.
