Responding to the concerns, Madhavan shared a clarification video on Instagram, saying that there was a misunderstanding about the scene and no disrespect was intended.

In the video message, Madhavan thanked the audience for the support he received from the film’s team and directly addressed the controversy. He said the team recently learned that some viewers were hurt by the perception that he was smoking while reciting lines from the Dasam Granth.

He told that filmmaker Aditya Dhar had instructed him to extinguish the cigarette thoroughly before speaking the lines in the scene. According to Madhavan, the intention was to ensure that neither smoke nor cigarettes were visible on the screen while the sacred verse was being recited.

Madhavan said that viewers would notice that no smoke was visible in the frame during the time in question and that the cigarette had already been extinguished in the sequence. He stressed that the producers were aware of the sensitivity of the content and had taken care not to hurt religious sentiments.

He reiterated his respect for the Sikh community and said that he has always held their traditions in high regard. The actor said that he regularly visits the Golden Temple ahead of the release of his film and stressed that he never had any intention of hurting anyone.

Madhavan further clarified that while his character is shown as a smoker in the film, the cigarette is only visible at the beginning of the scene and is not present during the recitation.
