Netflix’s upcoming crime thriller Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders It had its world premiere at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. The film, The Next Chapter of the Universe presented by Raat Akeli Hai, will release globally on Netflix on December 19.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui will return as Inspector Jatil Yadav in the film directed by Honey Trehan and written by Smita Singh. The story begins in Kanpur, where the influential Bansal family is murdered inside their mansion. As Jatil steps into the case, he comes face to face with power, deception, belief systems and secrets that have been buried for years.
Produced by RSVP and McGuffin Pictures, the film features a strong cast of Radhika Apte, Chitrangada Singh, Deepti Naval, Rajat Kapoor, Revathi, Ila Arun, Sanjay Kapoor and Akhilendra Mishra.
Ruchika Kapoor Shaikh, Director of Original Films at Netflix India, said the new film deepens the mood and suspense that defined the first installment. He added that Honey Trehan “returns to raise the stakes with a mystery that is more ambitious in scale, layered in character and grounded in emotional truth.”
Honey Trehan described the sequel as an opportunity to explore the emotional and moral cost of exposing the truth. “with Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal MurdersWe have gone deeper into the world we created earlier. The film explores the cost of truth and the corruption of conscience, with the stakes higher than ever.” Speaking about the IFFI premiere, he said that the festival ‘has always been a place that celebrates authentic storytelling’, making the debut especially meaningful.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui shared that stepping back into the complex Yadav world felt familiar but challenging. He described the IFFI screening as a special moment ahead of its global launch, saying, “The film takes him emotionally and morally to places he has never been.”
After its premiere at IFFI, Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders It will begin streaming worldwide on Netflix on December 19, 2025.
