Aamir Khan and filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani’s much-awaited Dadasaheb Phalke biopic has seen a change in the production timeline. While the project was earlier expected to go on floors in January 2026, the makers are now planning to start filming in late March 2026.

In September 2025, Mid-Day reported that the film was set to go on floors early next year, with Khan reportedly moved to tears while recalling important moments from Phalke’s life. However, plans have changed as the actor-director duo have decided to further refine the script before taking the film to the sets.
According to industry insiders, a new draft of the script is currently being developed to match the creative vision of both Hirani and Khan while doing justice to the journey of Dhundiraj Govind Phalke, widely considered the father of Indian cinema. Sources say the intention is to ensure that the narrative resonates with contemporary audiences without compromising historical authenticity.
A source told Mid-Day, “Hirani and Aamir are in agreement that the film should feel emotionally contemporary while remaining rooted in history. The rewrite is to get the balance of humor and honesty right. They want to ensure that the character captures the stature of Arch Phalke. The draft will likely be finalized by February, and production will begin in late March.”
This development comes months after Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani announced their reunion for the third time, after such a historic collaboration 3 idiots And P. The announcement sparked widespread anticipation throughout the industry. However, reports soon emerged that the project was temporarily put on hold due to creative concerns.
Earlier reliable sources had told IHNS Both Khan and Hirani were dissatisfied with earlier drafts of the script. The source said, “Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani stand for perfection, and they were not happy with the script of the Dadasaheb Phalke biopic. Aamir felt the script was too dry for audiences in today’s world, and it did not have the humor one would expect from their collaboration.”
The source further added, “After repeated rewriting sessions, the two have collectively decided to put the project on hold. They believe that an iconic personality like Dadasaheb Phalke deserves a script that is emotionally stirring and universally appealing. They will not rush into producing the film until they reach that benchmark.”
Meanwhile, Aamir Khan is said to be carefully evaluating his future projects. The actor is reportedly reading multiple scripts and is expected to announce his next film in the first quarter of 2026. A source said, “He is currently in the process of reading at least 20 scripts and will choose one from the shortlisted projects.”
