Filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi is known for directing acclaimed films like Injured, DaminiAnd Style of onesHe has faced a major legal setback after the Jamnagar sessions court rejected his appeal in a cheque-bouncing case. The judgment delivered on Thursday, October 15, upheld an earlier order passed by the Special Negotiable Instruments Court in Jamnagar, which had held Santoshi guilty of issuing cheques, which had become dishonored.

According to reports, the matter pertains to a loan of Rs. Businessman Ashok Lal had reportedly lent Rs 1 crore to the film producer. To repay the borrowed amount, Santoshi issued post-dated checks of Rs. 10 lakh each. However, when Lal presented the checks for clearance, the bank returned them unpaid, allegedly due to insufficient funds.
After the dishonor of the cheque, Lal approached the Special Negotiable Instruments Court, which ruled in his favour. The court convicted Santoshi under the provisions of the Negotiable Instruments Act, ordered him to repay double the check amount and sentenced him to two years’ imprisonment.
Challenging this order, Santoshi filed an appeal in the Jamnagar Sessions Court. However, after reviewing the evidence and the previous judgment, the sessions court dismissed his appeal and confirmed the lower court’s decision.
In its direction, the sessions court has now directed Rajkumar Santoshi to appear before it by October 27. The order further states that if the filmmaker fails to comply within the given deadline then an arrest warrant will be issued.
This case adds to the list of legal troubles Santoshi has faced in recent years. The filmmaker, who has been a part of the Hindi film industry for over three decades, is yet to publicly comment on the court’s latest decision. With the sessions court decision strengthening the earlier sentence, Rajkumar Santoshi’s legal options now appear limited, unless he seeks relief from the High Court before the stipulated deadline.
