Ram Gopal Varma calls Ceydan 2.0 an “asteroid” that brutally murdered the “ego” of the film industry: “It’s truly the liberation of cinema”

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has sparked a new debate on the future of cinema by describing AI tool “CDance 2.0” as the “killer of the film industry”, calling it a force of liberation.

Ram Gopal Varma launched Sedans 2.0 for the film industry.

Ram Gopal Varma called Ceydan 2.0 an “asteroid” that brutally murdered the “ego” of the film industry: “It is truly the liberation of cinema”.

In a post shared on February 25, 2026, Varma argued that advanced AI filmmaking tools could destroy the traditional structure of the film business. Referring to blockbuster filmmaker SS Rajamouli, he wrote that directors like Rajamouli command huge budgets because of their proven creative vision and track record. However, he questions why so many equally talented storytellers across India never get funding or access to industry networks.

According to Verma, tools like Seidance 2.0 “kicked down the gate and set it on fire”, enabling small-town creators to generate large-scale, cinematic visuals using only descriptive gestures. He described this as “the dynamic of true democracy”, suggesting that AI takes power out of the hands of a select few and into the hands of the masses.

Varma went even further, predicting the structural collapse of the current filmmaking ecosystem. Listing the huge crew involved in the process, he wrote, “A director’s primary job is to put a scene on paper and put it on the screen.” He claimed that advanced AI could eliminate the need for actors, technicians, production teams, and even large budgets.

He said, “There is no star issue anymore. There are no producers nervous about the budget anymore. There will be no more than 300 people standing around waiting for a shot. Just one person. One signal. One mind.”

Describing evolution as inevitable, Verma compared the change to an asteroid hitting the dinosaurs. “Dinosaurs ruled for 100 years. Now an asteroid has arrived. And its name is AI,” he wrote. He further said that the industry would be “brutally murdered – not slowly, not peacefully.”

Cedance 2.0, the killer of the film industry

Barring its copyright infringement etc, which is another matter, here is my opinion on Seadance 2.0

@ssrajsmooli the number is. 1 Director because he makes the most expensive films and the most successful.. People give him a fund of Rs 1000…

He concludes by raising a provocative question: Is this the death of the film industry, or its ultimate democratization?

Varma’s comments have already sparked conversations on social media platforms, reigniting the ongoing debate on whether artificial intelligence will disrupt or redefine the future of cinema.
