“They stayed for a long time and Dhoni even danced to Salman’s songs,” one of Salman’s chief guests told me on Saturday morning. “The party ended some time ago. In fact, guests are still coming out, with many staying at the farmhouse. However, after the ceremony, Dhoni and his wife left for Mumbai.”

A director-friend described the party as “slow but fun”. “There was a lot of alcohol there, but Salman didn’t drink. He kept saying, ‘I can’t believe I’m 60. I don’t even realize it.’ We all kept reassuring him that he didn’t look his age.”

Salman’s parents, although weak and initially reluctant to travel, arrived in Panvel for the festivities. Salman’s father Salim Khan insisted he was celebrating both Christmas and his son’s birthday – and wore a Santa hat to prove his point.

Considering that it was the superstar’s 60th birthday, the crowd was relatively small. His fellow Khan superstars, Aamir Khan and Shahrukh Khan, are currently on their New Year holidays. In fact, Aamir told me that he was keen to attend Salman’s birthday celebrations but he had prior commitments.

Some of Salman’s close director-friends were conspicuously absent. Kabir Khan, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Ali Abbas Zafar, three filmmakers who made significant contributions to Salman’s career, were missing from the ceremony. Even Apoorva Lakhia, who is directing Salman’s current project, couldn’t attend as he was reportedly doing the final work. battle of galwan Trailer till 2 am on 27th December.
