IRS officer Sameer Wankhede has broken his silence amid the controversy over the defamation case filed against Netflix, Red Chillies Entertainment and Aryan Khan over the web series The B***ds of Bollywood. The show marks Khan’s directorial debut, which reportedly features a character who tarnishes the reputation of Wankhede and mocks anti-drug agencies.

Sameer Wankhede denies having any grudge against Shah Rukh Khan and family: “I’m just a government employee, not living in a banana republic”
Emphasizing his commitment to the rule of law, Wankhede told HT City, “There is no one… I am an officer of the law, I work as per whatever books and acts are there.” “We are not living in some kind of banana republic here. We have a constitution, we have a system, we have a system… I am a very small man, just a government servant. You know, how can someone have so much resentment and all these things? These things are just nonsense.”
The officer’s strong words come as a direct challenge to the portrayal in the Netflix series, which he alleges is a “calculated and vindictive hit job.”3
For those unaware, the enmity between Wankhede and the Khan family has been going on since October 2021. At the time, Wankhede was the zonal director of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Mumbai and had led a highly publicized raid on a cruise ship that resulted in the arrest of Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan on drug-related charges. Aryan spent almost a month in custody before getting bail. In May 2022, all charges against Aryan were eventually dropped by the NCB due to lack of sufficient evidence.
This high-voltage arrest laid the foundation for the current legal battle. Wankhede’s suit claims that a character in The B***ds of Bollywood is an untrue caricature of him, designed to portray him in a false and malicious light. The Delhi High Court recently escalated the matter by issuing summons to Red Chillies Entertainment, Netflix and other entities. Wankhede’s petition demands Rs. He has promised to donate Rs 2 crore as compensation to Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital.
Beyond defamation, the former NCB officer has taken serious objection to a specific scene: a character allegedly making an obscene gesture immediately after uttering the national slogan “Satyamev Jayate”. Wankhede argues that this is a serious violation of the Prevention of Insults to National Honor Act, 1971.
While the High Court acknowledged that there is “reason” in Wankhede’s favour, it refused to pass an interim injunction to stop the streaming of the series at this stage. The court has directed the defendants to file their reply within seven days, listing the matter for further hearing on October 30. Wankhede is not only fighting for his personal honour, but also for the “dignity of law enforcement officers”.
