Filmmaker Sandhya Suri has expressed her deep disappointment after the last-minute decision to stop the digital premiere of her film. Satisfaction In India, the move is being called “a real shame”. This delay has been caused by constant conflicts with India’s censorship system. Suri said, “The procedure in India is that the Censor Board (CBFC) can ask you to make cuts for a theatrical release. The cuts they asked for were not acceptable to me or my team. We could not make those cuts because they deeply compromised the integrity of the film.”
He further emphasized that his objections to the mandatory cuts for the theatrical release remained the same for the streaming run and said, “The objections I had to the cuts for the theatrical release remain my objections to the streaming release. By law, streamers are not required to have censorship conditions to show movies. But perhaps it’s more about an environment in which streamers can create a cohesive universe.” Let’s take some objections of our own free will.”
Suri also highlighted an unintended consequence of pulling the premiere: potential piracy. He commented, “It was announced and now we’re not announcing it, so a lot of people are going to see it in some other form.” “I wish that the film be distributed in India legally and uncut.”
Satisfaction It revolves around a widowed police constable, Santosh (played by Shahana Goswami), who steps into her late husband’s employ and investigates the murder of a young girl. Produced by Good Chaos with co-producers Razor Film and Haute et Court, it was backed by the BFI and BBC Film. The film also represented the UK’s submission for the Best International Feature category at the 97th Academy Awards.
