The legendary Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute in New York, which trained icons like Marlon Brando, Al Pacino and Robert De Niro, has extended a rare honor to veteran actor Shabana Azmi. After seeing images of her acclaimed solo play, Institute President Victoria Cranor personally invited Shabana Azmi to visit the school and conduct an acting masterclass for NYU theater students.
Shabana Azmi became the first Indian actor to be invited to conduct an acting masterclass at the Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute, New York.
This is a historic moment as AZMI is the first Indian actor to receive such an invitation from the institution which is considered the Mecca of acting.
When this writer reached out to the incomparable Shabana Azmi in America, she was in awe. “How did you find out so quickly? Yes, I have been invited to conduct a masterclass at the Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute. How can I react to this honor? Like I do for all recognition. Just keep working, and never stop to praise yourself. And if recognition for your work makes our country proud, then I’m happy.”
Azmi was recently seen sharing a happy moment with Robert Ellerman, director and teacher and Victoria Crain, Chair at Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute.
