Nandamuri Balakrishna’s much awaited Akhand 2 Just hours before its big release a major setback has occurred, leaving fans and the business in complete shock. Directed by Boyapati Srinu, touted as a lavish, large-scale sequel to the 2021 blockbuster unbroken (2021), was scheduled to be released in theaters worldwide on December 5, 2025, with a paid premiere on December 4. Instead, the film has now been postponed indefinitely, with no new release date in sight.

It became clear on December 4 itself that things were not well, as there was confusion regarding theater booking and showcasing. By the evening, paid premieres were officially discontinued, and even foreign KDMs reportedly did not run, forcing distributors to pull shows at the last minute. This caused frustration and disappointment to the followers of Balakrishna.
Soon after, production house 14 Reels Plus broke its silence on social media and confirmed Akhand 2 The release would not be as scheduled, citing “unavoidable circumstances” and calling it a “painful moment” for the team. The makers said that they are working tirelessly to resolve the issue as soon as possible and apologized to the audiences who were eagerly waiting for the film. He also made it clear that the new release date will be finalized only after the financial hurdles are cleared, effectively confirming that the delay is not a routine postponement but a serious setback.
Reportedly, the makers faced a legal battle. According to The Economic Times, the Madras High Court recently passed an order to stay the release Akhand 2 After Eros International Media Limited approached the court. Eros has set aside an arbitral award of around Rs 28 crore against 14 Reels Entertainment Pvt Ltd, a group entity linked to the producers. The company argued that releasing the film under the 14 Reels Plus LLP banner could be seen as an attempt to circumvent these financial obligations. Therefore, a division bench issued an order staying any theatrical, streaming or commercial release of the film until further orders.
With court injunctions in place and financial disputes unresolved, Akhand 2 Effectively stuck in limbo. For the industry, the halt comes as a surprise given the strong buzz, Balakrishna’s huge fan base and the sequel’s status as a major tentpole title. For fans, the wait for the return of the mighty Akhand Avatar has just gotten longer, with all eyes now on how quickly the producers and stakeholders can sort out the legal and monetary knots and get the film back on track.
