In an exclusive interview with IHNS, director Ramesh Sippy said about the original ending, “For 50 years, this is the version that people are familiar with. Also, in 1975, it was the time of Emergency. So, we couldn’t argue much. But the ending that I kept had to be shot (at the last minute). This changed climax was the same ending that every film had at that time. The police come and say, “Stop”So, it was a normal ending. This is what I didn’t like; There was no other reason. However, censor officials insisted that “he is an officer. He should not take the law into his own hands.” Actually, I can’t tell because he didn’t have any hands (laughs),”
