The original ending, five decades later
The biggest attraction of this version is its restoration original climaxWhere Thakur kills Gabbar Singh – an ending which was changed due to censorship restrictions during the Emergency.
talking to IHNS Last month, Ramesh Sippy explained the circumstances that led to the change. He said, “In 1975, it was the time of Emergency. So, we couldn’t argue much. But what I ended up doing was to shoot at the last minute.” “This changed climax was the same ending that every film had at that time. The police come and say, ‘Stop’! It was a normal ending. That’s what I didn’t like; there was no other reason.”
“The censor officials insisted that ‘he is an officer. He should not take the law into his own hands,'” he said with humour. Actually, I couldn’t tell because he didn’t have any hands.”
The restored version is now set for release on December 12, giving audiences a chance to watch again cinder In a form that respects its scale, craft and original creative vision.
