Veteran Malayalam star Sreenivasan’s long battle with illness has ended in tragedy. The 69-year-old veteran was being treated at his home in Udayamperur after his health deteriorated. Despite being taken to a hospital in Thripunithura, he was declared dead on Saturday morning.

Soon after, superstar Mohanlal wrote a heartfelt note for his late friend and co-star on his Facebook account. In her long note, the Padmashree awardee complained that her friend Srini left without saying goodbye. He further added, “I don’t know how to put into words the relationship with Srini. Our love affair was far beyond the definition of people who have worked together in films.”

In his tribute to the late legend, Kamal Haasan said, “Some actors entertain, some enlighten, some provoke. #Srinivasan did it all, with a smile that had truth and a laugh that had responsibility. My respects to a remarkable mind. Deepest condolences to his family and fans.”

Veteran filmmaker Sathyan Anthikad told reporters, “I am in a situation where I cannot react. We have had a strong relationship with each other. I used to visit him once in two weeks (since he fell ill). I never thought he would go away so soon.”

In her note on X, playback singer KS Chitra shared, “I am deeply saddened to hear about the demise of Srinivas sir. I was fortunate enough to sing for many of his films. My thoughts and prayers are with his family in this difficult time.”

Popular actor Mukesh also said this to the media. Mathrubhumi quoted him as saying that Sreenivasan would speak his mind about a script or film no matter who came to him, even if it was an emerging writer. Apparently, some people were afraid to even approach him.

He said, “His questions were always precise and his insight unmatched. Even Sreenivasan’s laughter has its own uniqueness. I had expressed my wish that we should produce a film together and thus the film ‘Katha Parayampol’ was jointly produced. The moments spent with Sreenivasan were golden moments. Even the criticism of his films was full of humour.”
