The lights are flickering once again in Hawkins. Shadows creep, memories swirl, and the air crackles with the kind of electricity only the most beloved world of Netflix can summon. Netflix invites us back to the Upside Down as the trailer for Stranger Things season 5 arrives.
Stranger Things 5 trailer: Cast hints at ‘next level action’ and ‘chaotic start’ to final season
Counting down to the final chapter, the cast, creators, and executive producers of Stranger Things set the stage for what’s going to happen and where we find our characters at the beginning of the season, as told to Tudum.
Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven) says, “Eleven is in training mode. She’s in warrior mode, the first time you’ll see Eleven like this at the beginning of the season. As far as her mindset, she’s only thinking about protecting her friends. Her friends are her chosen family, so she’ll do whatever it takes to protect them and we’re going to see that.”
Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin) says, “Dustin is somewhat awkward. I think everyone is probably considering the situation Hawkins is in, and it’s getting a little harder for the gang to put all the pieces together. We’re all dealing with day-to-day issues of trying to keep everyone safe and figuring out where Vecna is, while there’s a lot of unpacked stuff from the events of last season.”
Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas) says, “At the beginning of a season it’s always like everything is good, but this is the first season we’re coming in and the stakes are right where we left off. We haven’t defeated Vecna and the problem is still there. We’re still trying to figure it out and we may not be able to figure it out, so you feel the burden on Lucas as well as everyone else on the show. Everyone is on edge and we’re all Just trying.” To keep hope alive.”
Noah Schnapp (Will) claims, “Will is back in Hawkins this season. He was out of Hawkins for most of last season, so now we’re seeing the effects of him being back in that area. We’re hitting the ground running right away this season, which is really exciting and we haven’t started like any other season. Everyone is in the same place and we all have the same goal.”
Sadie Sink (Max) explains, “We ended Season 4 in a tough place for Max. His last moments were him in a hospital bed. Eleven was searching for him in the void and couldn’t find him, so Max is definitely not the same person she once was. However, there’s still a small glimmer of hope left, and her friends are holding on to her.”
Finn Wolfhard (Mike) says, “Mike is back in leadership mode, and he’s taken it upon himself to help plan these missions, and he and the whole gang are dedicated to finding Vecna and taking it down.”
Ross Duffer (co-creator, executive producer, writer, director) shares, “I think what’s unique about this season is that it starts off with a little bit of chaos because our heroes are finally defeated at the end of Season 4. We usually set up their normal lives and how they’re going to school, and then we introduce the supernatural element. But in this case, this season has been booming from the beginning.”
Matt Duffer (co-creator, executive producer, writer, director) says, “They’re not experiencing a normal life. Nothing is normal in Hawkins anymore…Their movements are restricted, and there are Big Brother cameras everywhere. So not only are they not active – their everyday, normal life is nothing.”
Shawn Levy (executive producer and director) concluded, “The action is next level, the visual effects are next level, but I’m also happy to say that the emotional center remains the same. And part of the magic of this show is that even as we evolve, even as the story gets more epic, it’s always anchored in the characters we love.”
