On the third Friday, a decline was recorded in Tulsi Kumari of Sunny Sanskari. The film wants to collect around Rs 10 crore. 85 lakh to Rs. 90 lakhs on the 16th day, taking the total earning to Rs. 54.75 crores. The decline compared to last Friday is around 60 percent. The film is taking its last breaths at the box office as it is set to close its theatrical innings after Diwali with the arrival of Thamma and Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat.
The Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor starrer is expected to show some growth in the next three days and end its journey at the box office at around Rs. 60 crores in India. Not a favorable ending for such a star-studded film. However, at one time it seemed that the film was going to make Rs. 50 crore figure, considering its average reception among the audience.
Buy-one-get-one (BOGO) offers on weekdays and holiday periods boosted its business and gave it some life. However, even achieving Rs. Even the figure of Rs 60 crore will not be able to save its boat as it has sunk in the opening weekend itself. This film has proved to be another flop at the box office.
Genre and midstream films are generally struggling in the post-pandemic times. One major reason for this is the erosion of the theatrical base by digital platforms. However, there are some films like Jolly LLB 3 and Sitare Zameen Par which got appreciation and success, but still could not earn as much as they did in the pre-pandemic times.
The 8 week OTT window is killing the business in a big way. The audience prefers to wait for the film to drop on OTT platforms rather than going out for the theatrical experience. Manufacturers should extend the 8-week period to between 6 months to revive business and style.
